The idea is simple though; it comes from the Latin words <em>trans<\/em> meaning &#8216;beyond&#8217; and <em>scandare<\/em>, which of course means &#8216;to climb&#8217;. Put &#8217;em together and you have the idea of going beyond ordinary limitations, or as some would insist achieving a holy state beyond ordinary limitations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, at Push we&#8217;re not suggesting that climbing is next to godliness. Not until the sixth or seventh beer at least.<\/p>\n<p>But there&#8217;s something so elementally self-challenging about taking on the wall that sometimes we do ponder the bigger picture and the idea of transcendence.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>(Tip: if you&#8217;re going to ponder the bigger picture while climbing, make sure you&#8217;re firmly clipped on <a href=\"https:\/\/pushclimbing.vn\/on-belay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">belay <\/a>first.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHuman nature doesn&#8217;t change much. For a lot of climbers it really is a reconnection either with nature if you&#8217;re climbing in the wild, or with an inner nature as we reconnect with our inner child and scramble up that tree. It&#8217;s part of the beauty of climbing and one of the reasons why many climbers, including our own <a href=\"https:\/\/pushclimbing.vn\/team-push\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">instructors<\/a>, often say climbing is not a sport\u2014it&#8217;s their lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I started climbing it was in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mountainproject.com\/area\/105909311\/alaska\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alaska<\/a> with guys who were really hippy about it\u201d, recalls Paul. \u201cIt was all about you and the mountain. What has really changed though, and something certain purists are wrong to rage against, is the way that climbing is no longer for a rare elite.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat the industry has done, with its climbing gyms and cheaper kit, is make what was only available to the precious few be available to the many. Now anyone can embark on this ship,\u201d Paul said.<\/p>\n<p>Or to put it another way, there have never been so many ways to achieve transcendence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur job [in the climbing industry] is to find ways of motivating people, of letting them find and grow what they want in themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Push and those in the same industry receive people on a mission \u201cto upgrade themselves. That&#8217;s truly our task.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe great outdoors is still there, but now there are spectacular climbers who have never been there\u2013there are fully trained athletes that have never touched a real rock face in their lives\u2013and that just wasn&#8217;t possible twenty years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce it was just &#8216;climbing&#8217;, and now it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/pushclimbing.vn\/lead-climbing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lead<\/a>, or<a href=\"https:\/\/pushclimbing.vn\/top-rope\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> top rope<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/pushclimbing.vn\/moonboard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bouldering<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catbalocaladventure.com\/deep-water-solo-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deep water soloing<\/a>.
